Negative consent is when we say no to something on the spur of the moment, or when we agree to something on the spur of the moment, but then stop. This can happen when we’re on the phone, sitting in traffic, just walking down the street, or even when we’re in the middle of a conversation. You could even have some negative consent when you’re trying to get someone to agree with you.
Negative consent is a really easy way to end up in a sticky situation. If your partner wants to agree to something but stops because he doesn’t want to make you happy, he’s trying to “negate” you. He’s not really trying to make you happy, he’s just trying to make himself happy.
